Our Parish Mass was rescheduled to 6 p.m. on 21st December to kick-start our Christmas celebrations right after the Mass. “Carols by Candlelight” has now become an annual programme. This time, however, it was held in the School Hall and not open air.
The evening started with a play by the GOOD NEWS CLUB. Appropriately titled UNTO US A CHILD IS BORN it was written and directed by Dr. Elaine Charles. Conal Charles was at the keyboard; Sunita D’Souza, a Cathechist of the GNC gave a brief synopsis of the play. The cast of around 30 children with their Teachers performed brilliantly. Some of the Narrators were: Marissa Sequeira, Joshua Sequeira, Joanna Pinto. John Charles did a solo of Oh Holy Night while Denver Lobo played his drum and sang Rump-a-Pum-Pum. Janine Noguer lent her voice to Let there be Peace on Earth. The children were at their best with their make-up and costumes in perfect order. Kudos to the Cathechists and parents of the children for the excellent team spirit and of course, to Dr. Elaine Charles without whom this would not have been possible.
The second item on the agenda was the Gujarati Community comprising 5 ladies and Fr. Roque with Mr Vincent on the tabla. The rhythm of their music was delightfully enjoyed by one and all.
Scheme Community entertained us with Oh Come All Ye Faithful, The First Noel and We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Conal Charles was at the keyboard.
We then had the Malla Community sing Silent Night, Hark the Herald Angels and I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus. Malaika Fernandes, Michele Fernandes and Sarah Fernandes enacted their story-telling of “I Saw Mummy Kissing Santa Claus” with cute innocence! Conal Charles accompanied them on the keyboard.
Frs. Clement, Leon and Roque accompanied by Mr. Vincent on the Tabla then rendered two Hindi songs apparently without any practice – so announced Fr. Roque!
Rajan Community sang out Mary’s Boy Child, We Three Kings and Santa Claus is Coming to Town with Judy Fernandes’ accompaniment on the guitar.
Sherly Community gave us a new number No Vacancy with a catchy tune. Also, Away in a Manger and Jingle Bell Rock. Dr. Margaret Miranda and Elroy Lobo accompanied them on the guitar and Lily Castelino was at the keyboard. The little children were a sheer delight.
The grand finale was the Ambedkar Road Community who were by far the best dressed for the Season with garlands around their shoulders and Stars in their hands. Wearing Santa caps and clothes depicting the Christmas colours, mingled with their gay abandonment while they performed, they truly won the hearts of the audience. They sang Joy to the World, Go Tell it on the Mountain and Jingle Bell Rock. They even had Santa arrive for their last number and after he danced and rocked away on the stage, he distributed sweets in the audience.
The Vote of Thanks was done by Sunita D’Souza after which there was a fellowship with snacks and coffee.
