The Ladies Sodality of our parish hosted their second Breakfast Mela on Sunday 23rd February 2014, from after the 8.00 a.m. Mass, which turned out to be a great success. The Meet & Greet area, outside the church, was lined with stalls, selling all kinds of delicious, home-made snacks and cookies, all at reasonable rates. There were hot dogs , chicken croissants and cold tongue sandwiches, cutlets and croquettes, pan rolls and potato chops, pizza & kheema pao, fugias & chittiaps, a variety of pickles and also coconut cake, cup cakes & brownies. They sold like hot cakes & although the sale was meant to be after the 9.15 a.m. Mass as well, everything was sold out after the 8.00 a.m. Mass itself. However we promise to ensure that this will not happen again and we have resolved to increase our stocks and supplies the next time, so as to avoid disappointing the many who came with bags to purchase their Sunday breakfast at the Mela. The reason for the rapid sale of the snacks and cookies was aptly explained by one young mother from our parish who said to me,” When people of your generation make home-made snacks and cookies, we of the present generation could never resist buying them, because such food does not come by easily these days!”
The draw for the Raffle of the beautifully iced home-baked cake & the large hamper of goodies was held after the 9.15 a.m. Mass with Fr.Clement, our Spiritual Director, drawing lots for the lucky winners. Little Lisa Reynolds was the lucky winner of the cake & Jerry & Felicity Rodrigues the fortunate winners of the hamper.
We are proud to say that all the home-made food & snacks were generously donated by the members of our Sodality & those who were not in a position to do the cooking themselves, donated generously in cash. The proceeds of the sale will go to boost our Sodality Funds and especially our Out Reach Programs to the poor & needy. But what we cherish most is the beautiful team spirit, the sense of involvement & the spirit of contribution to a worthy cause, that pervades among our ladies, who are already looking forward to our next Breakfast Mela in May/June this year, with enough to satisfy everyone.
