Congregation of Carmelite Missionaries
We the Carmelite Missionaries are a religious congregation founded in 1860 by a Discalced Carmelite Father, Bless Francisco Palau y Quer, to accomplish the special Mission in the Church. Our Religious family combines fundamentally the heritage of the Teresian Carmel as it was lived and handed on by Our Fr. Founder and his new charismatic ecclesial experience.
Our Charism: To be an authentic sign of communion in the Church. Indeed it is a call to be one with God and neighbour.
Apostolate: Education, Health care, Pastoral work, Missionaries activities, Social work, especially development of women and children. We give special attention to the poor and promotion of the Spiritual life.
Our Presence : Following the words of our Founder: “Go where the Glory of God calls you” As a result we are in 39 countries of the world and 10 states of India carrying out our mission in the church.
Enkindled by the Prophet Elijah’s zeal for the glory of God the first three sisters from Spain came to India in 1954, responding to the invitation of the Gujarat Government to serve the lepers in Junagadh, Gujarat.
In 1970 the new community was established in Bandra, Mumbai (Prithi-Kunj).
This serves as our Provincial and formation house. From the very beginning we were involved in the parish activities of St. Anne’s Church, Pali-Hill, Bandra like Catechism, distributing Holy Communion, S.C.C., Legion of Mary and home visit etc. We are happy and willing to serve the local church. We hope and pray that many generous persons may come to serve the Lord in this way of life.
“ Oh, Holy church you are the object of my love” (Bl. Francisco Palau)
