Our Patroness

Anne, of David’s house and line, is glorious among the saints because it was in her that the Immaculate Conception per se took place, whereby she became the mother, of the mother of God, in effect, the grandmother of the Messiah.

Her name, Anne, is a Greek rendering of a Hebrew name Hannah. Anne and her husband Joachim, after years of childlessness, were visited by an angel who told them that they would conceive a child. Anne promised to dedicate the child to God’s service.

We are privileged to have St. Anne as our Patroness. She is the mother of Mary and grandmother of Jesus. St. Anne and her husband, St. Joachim are role models for today’s parents. They brought up Mary with love and instilled in her great humility and piety. Armed with these virtues, Mary became worthy of becoming the Mother of God.

The Feast of St. Anne is celebrated with much religious fervour and pomp each year on the 26th July. A Novena is conducted prior to the Feast Day; each of the nine days is allotted to a Community or Association to organize.

​

Mass on the Feast Day is generally concelebrated by a Bishop and is widely acclaimed as a very well-attended Eucharistic celebration to culminate in an evening of fun and games with a sumptuous dinner.

​

A mini fete marks the beginning of the cultural programme on the Saturday preceding the Feast Day, with each Community running a stall with delicacies galore.
